For the Love of Food..

 As I’m sure we’re all aware, food is necessary for life as humans. It’s celebrated in festivals and ‘holidays’ with anything from highly popular Lobster Festivals to National Ice Cream Day! But, sometimes, I feel like people don’t fully appreciate everything food is and offers us as people.

     Food is amazing. When ingested, our bodies transform it into energy, it has the power help us build muscle, and overall, it can satisfy any hunger that we had prior to eating the meal. Yet, too many people in this world eat without the enjoyment that should come hand-in-hand with eating.

    With every bite, there should be an explosion of flavors in your mouth that leave you with your eyes closed and for you to slow down your chewing to help you savor every bite. Food should leave you wanting to get up and start dancing because a party just began in your mouth and you decided to join. In today’s world, everyone is always in such a hurry that they shove food into their mouth, chew it once or twice, and continue on with the rest of their hectic schedule without tasting a single flavor. I understand that people can be busy, and that every meal can’t be heaven sent where you can sit down and indulge in every last bite, but if one meal a day isn’t like that, you really should reevaluate how busy your schedule is.

     There have been times in my life, where I eat food that is so undeniably delicious, that I can’t even imagine why people do drugs. The food is so amazing that I know if a group of disputing people would sit around a table and eat the food I just ate, world peace would be accomplished. It’s not even the same meal every time. There have been occasions that I’ve even eaten pizza from Domino’s that made me feel so great, that I imagined all of the things I listed before. The thing is, I’ve had that exact pizza many times before.

     Eating food is just as much a mental activity as it is physical. So, I challenge you to pick any meal throughout your day and savor it. Every last bite. Don’t swallow until you’ve identified every flavor and realize how fortunate you are to be in the position you are now. I’m not saying to indulge in gluttony as your new lifestyle, but you should enjoy the foods you eat for there are so many people in this world who don’t have the pleasure.

Food is a beautiful art that has brought people together since the beginning of time. 

Now remember that next time you sit down for a meal.

Top 5 Nail Polish Colors for Fall!

Finally, fall is coming and that means we get to break out our cozy sweaters and adorable riding boots! It also means that our nail polish colors need a seasonal update as well and here are my top five:

1.Maybelline Color Show- 215 Wine and Forever

Being a beautiful berry color, it’s a perfect staple for the autumn months and would look great on any skin tone.

2. Sally Hanson Insta Dry- 300 Grease Lightening

SH gray

Although I feel grays don’t get talked about often enough (unless there are 50 shades of them ;D), I was obligated to include this polish color. Gray is perfect for people who like darker shades, but aren’t ready to commit to having straight up black nail polish covering the tips of their fingers.

3. Essie- Poor Lil’ Rich Girl

Everyone needs a true red nail polish in their collection of colors, and this one by Essie is great for both blue and red undertones and would look lovely on anyone fingers (or toes).

Although it appears outrageously blue in this photo, Deep End by Sally Hanson is a gorgeous shade of purple that looks nice on either light and dark skin tones.

Black nail polish is my favorite polish color of all time! It gives such a clean look to a person’s hands and is great any time of year if you ask me 🙂

In the same way that the world can take unexpected turns in an unfavorable direction, it can do the same in the best possible way. Live your life, and let what happens happen; because, in the end, your life is 10% what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it. Be willing to try new things, take risks, and live on the edge. If it doesn’t work out, say, “Oh, well,” and keep moving, and if it does, enjoy every second of it. So don’t be afraid to fall.. because, sweetheart, you might just fly.

Cooking With Kay~ Oatmeal Cinnamon Muffins

Hello, lovely people!

I’m back with another Cooking With Kay post, and today I made Oatmeal Cinnamon Muffins that I found on Mama Knows It All. It was a fairly easy recipe, so let’s see how I made it!

Like always, I gathered all the ingredients I’d need for the recipe…

Then, I began combining all of my dry ingredients. Although the recipe called to only use white sugar, I halved the amount and added a little bit of brown sugar because of how much I love the flavor it creates…

After lightly mixing those together, I added my liquid ingredients which included a whole stick of melted butter! (And I thought this was a healthy recipe!)

Once that was completed, I scooped all of the batter into my muffin tins after thoroughly spraying the pan with nonstick baking spray…

After 15 minutes in the oven, they were complete!

I’m not going to lie, I was a bit disappointed in these muffins. The recipe online made it sound like they’d be amazing but, if anything, they were just average. The type of average that would leave you wanting more of something sweeter and lighter after eating one. I tried them fresh out the oven and the next day after making them and, both times, I wasn’t impressed. I’d rate them a 3 out of 10.

I’m sure that the recipe is great, and it’s probably just my personal taste that isn’t a big fan of them. But, if you’d like, give them a try and tell me whether or not they turned out better for you!

If I Had One Wish~ Monograms!

As of recently, I’ve been totally obsessed with monograms. If you don’t know what a monogram is, allow me to enlighten you. A  monogram is a placement of a person’s initials, commonly in the order of first initial, last initial (that’s bigger than the other two letters), then the person’s middle name initial. My best friend really got me into them, and now I want to monogram everything! I only own one monogrammed item and I have one on its way; but I truly spend so much of my time on Pinterest and Etsy looking for new monogrammed items that I had to write a post about it. Here are the top 5 monogrammed items that i can’t wait to personalize with my own initials:

As the new school year approaches and people are fighting to get in their last summer vacations and pool time photos, it’s time to think about what we want this upcoming year to bring. It’s kind of like New Year resolutions after you realized how overly ambitious you were with the ones you created in January.

My life is filled to the brim with all sorts of things that I need to improve on, get rid of, and begin doing. Things from not being such a control freak to spending more time with new people-whether I think I will enjoy it or not. I, for one, am excited to begin a new chapter of my life that has the potential to be the best or the worst year of my life all depending on the outlook I have.

It’s a time where we should ask ourselves the following:

Are you getting enough hours of sleep? If not, get your eight hours or more so you wake up refreshed and well rested.

Am I holding a grudge towards someone? If so, either confront them about it or come to terms with the fact that they weren’t meant to be in your life, and you need to accept that.

Have I worn that shirt in the last year? If not, get rid of it, and go on a shopping spree!

Am I missing someone that I have the ability to contact? If so, pick up the phone and call them! It’ll make you feel better and make the other person feel loved and appreciated.

Am I happy with my life?

Now, this is a big one. Your answer to this question should dictate the rest of your actions. If the answer is yes, then I’m happy for you. You should be happy with the way your life is going, and I hope you always continue to enjoy the life your living. If your answer is no to that question, then you need to stop what you’re doing, figure out why, and change it. There is something-or multiple things- holding back the happiness you deserve. Whether it’s a person, an act, or even your own thoughts and ideas, it’s toxic clutter, and it’s hurting you. So get it out of your life now before it gets worse!

Life is way too short to not be happy with the way yours is going.

Cooking With Kay~ Kale And Garlic Pasta

Hello, lovely people!

I’m back at it again with my second installment of Cooking with Kay, and today I’m making a Kale and Garlic Pasta that I found on Love and Olive Oil.  I know that the recipe calls for spinach, but because I only had kale on hand and they react the same to cooking, I thought the substitution would be alright. Kale seems to be all the rage right now, so I decided to give the healthy vegetable a go and see if it’s worth all of the hype!

Here we go!

Once again, I gathered all of my ingredients…

Instead of using regular pasta, I opted for whole wheat as a healthier option for the same amount of flavor…

When the pasta finished cooking, I took a large sauce pan and began sautéing all of my spices and seasonings…

Then, I added three handfuls of chopped kale to the same pan. I forgot to take a picture of it, but once the kale had started welting (after about 3 minutes), I added my whole wheat pasta to the sauce pan and combined all of the ingredients…

Here’s the end result with some shredded parmesan cheese sprinkled on top! Overall, the pasta was very good! I was a little heavy-handed with the crushed red pepper, so the dish had a nice spice to it that really elevated its flavor profile. One a scale of one to ten, I’d give this recipe a 7. The pasta was good as well as all of the seasonings, but I’ve found that I’m really not that big of a fan of kale haha.

Now, let me clarify something: I’m not saying you have to be in a full ball gown and five inch stilettos everywhere you go to prove that you have yourself together haha. Style is what you make of it. Style is unique to you and me and everyone else in this world. In a sense, your style is your personality.

I like to look good regardless of where I’m going. It makes me feel better, like what I’m doing is important, even if it’s just going to the grocery store. Clothes should make you feel that way. Clothes should make you feel good about yourself and confident in who you are! You’re amazing, and your clothes should reflect that!

In case you didn’t know, people do judge books by their cover. I do it, you do it, everyone does. It’s built into our DNA, and it won’t be changed anytime soon. You could be the nicest person in the world, but if you’re out wearing a shirt that you hate and a pair of jeans that you know never fit you correctly but you bought them anyway, you’re not going to seem confident in yourself or your personality just because you don’t like your outfit. People would be missing out on your greatness because you didn’t show them how great you are!

When you get dressed every morning, do it for you. Every time you walk out of your front door to face the world, you should be 100% confident in the way you look because it will translate to you being 100% confident in who you are!
