50 Posts and Counting!

Hello, lovely people!

On Saturday night, I got a notification from WordPress saying that I’d reached 50 posts on my blog. I’ve been wanting to reflect on what I’ve learned since blogging, so what better time than me reaching this milestone to do so!

Blogging is unlike anything I’ve ever done before. It’s proactive writing about anything you want while other people read it and tell you their opinion on the same topic. Blogging has made me try new products, learn about new things, and interact with people I wouldn’t have known otherwise.

For those reasons, I love it. I love being able to share my thoughts and opinions with the world. I love being able to wake up every morning and seeing what other people in the vast blogging community have posted. I love being able to sit down in my room and just write.

Blogging (and reading other’s blogs) is inspiring and uplifting and just nice in every way possible. I have never been one to really have hobbies, but blogging is mine. I might still be new at this, and I might not have a lot of followers or views, but that’s okay, because none of that matters; and that took me a long time to learn.

Thank you, all of you, who have read my blog once or have been reading my blog since the beginning. It still shocks me when I see people from all over the world have seen what I’ve written, and that’s another beauty of this great hobby of mine.

Cheers to another 50 posts!

5 Ways to Style Blazers!

Hello, lovely people!

If there is one outfit piece that I have begun to love lately, it’s a blazer! They can be dressed up and down and always add the perfect something to any occasion. You can never go wrong with a nice-fitting blazer! So, as you can tell by the title, I’m going to share my 5 favorite ways to style a blazer 🙂

I just bought a pink blazer this week, and I wore it the day after it came in the mail! The sophisticated jacket is a staple in any woman or man’s closet, so I highly recommend investing in one you’ll love.

Do you wear blazers often? Which outfit was your favorite? Let me know in the comments!

All the Single Ladies (and Men)!

Single on Valentine's.png

Valentine’s Day seems like the one day a year when people really start to realize that they’re single (regardless of whether or not they were in a relationship the other 364 days of the year haha). The so-called holiday is marketed to tap into people’s feelings of love and admiration for their significant other and can be used as an excuse to take some romantic getaway or spend an unlawful amount of money on a single gift.

In my opinion, it’s crazy. Valentine’s Day is another day of the year when people are stressed out to find the perfect gift or make the perfect plans to sweep someone else off their feet. Be happy that you don’t have to deal with that. Be happy that you’re alone, so you can spend all of your money on yourself as opposed to another person!

This isn’t going to be one of those ‘I hate Valentine’s Day’ posts, because I think it’s a cute concept. But I do not think people, including myself, who are single on February 14th  should feel sorry for themselves.

If you want to have an amazing Valentine’s Day, have one! Invite some friends over and have a movie night. Splurge on that new watch or pair of shoes that you never had a reason to buy for yourself. Make yourself a gourmet dinner from a new recipe you’ve never tried (or just order pizza).

You deserve to have a fabulous day every single day of the year, so don’t let heart-shaped chocolates and teddy bears ruin that!

Cooking With Kay~SuperBowl Corn Dip

super bowl 50.jpg

Hello, lovely people!

This past weekend was one of the most important days of the year: Super Bowl Sunday! This is the day when the two best teams in the National Football League go head to head on a Sunday afternoon when people come together to throw big parties and watch some new-and hopefully entertaining-commercials!

Although I’m not having an elaborate party, I am having a friend come over to watch the game with me. What better time than now to try out a new dip recipe! I originally tried this dip when a friend of mine had made it, and it was delicious! After scrolling through the internet to find one similar, I finally decided to test it out myself.

Like always, I began by gathering my ingredients.FullSizeRender 6

Next, I shredded my cheese, minced my jalepeno ( I only used one in this recipe), and drained my corn. Then, they were all added to my bowl.

Lastly, I mixed all of the ingredients together until they were well combined and placed them in an oven-safe dish to bake.

After 20 minutes, the dip was done! It turned out better than I could’ve imagined and tasted delicious! It was all gone by the end of the game, so I’ll definitely be making this more often!

Television Taste: Scandal

Hello, lovely people!

In my recent monthly favorites post (that you can read here), I briefly wrote about my love for the television show Scandal.

For years, I avoided watching this show because I thought it’d be another one of those drama-filled television series filled with ridiculous gestures of love and unrealistic trials, but it’s not that at all! The show displays the “hidden” American government with it’s lies, favors, killings, and secrecy.

Written by Shonda Rhimes (the woman responsible for writing Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder), Olivia Pope (who is shown in the picture above) is known as ‘the fixer’ in Washington DC who solves people’s problems before it ruins their career and life. Scandal is centered around her and her interactions with the very attractive President Fitzgerald Grant, the people she works with that she calls “her team,” and others in the White House staff.

I’m not going to lie, I was hooked to this show within the first 30 seconds of the pilot when Harrison, one of Olivia’s associates, described what life was like working with the famous Pope. I was grabbed not only by the romance, drama, and (for lack of better words) scandals dealt with, but because I would love to be Olivia Pope. She’s the perfect example of a strong, independent, and smart woman that I believe television was in desperate need of.

Scandal gets an 11 out of 10 in my book, and I highly recommend that everyone alive watches this show. You won’t regret it!

Have you ever seen Scandal? Do you love it as much as I do? Are there any other shows you think I should watch? Let me know in the comments!

A Gluten-Free Week!?

gluten free

Hello, lovely people!

Last week, I had a blog post describing the effects of gluten on the human body, and I vowed to eat one gluten-free meal everyday for a week! Here are the results of that experiment!

At first, it was a bit of a challenge to find things in my house that didn’t have gluten in them, but after looking through ingredient labels and scrolling through different websites, I was able to find meals that fit the requirements. A lot of them were meals I already ate but had to take the side of bread I usually accompany the meal with out of the equation. My go-to meal was brown rice with beef mixed in with a spoonful of Nutella to satisfy my sweet tooth (who knew Nutella didn’t have gluten in it!).

Overall, It think this is a great experiment for people to try! I probably won’t be continuing this on a regular basis like I have for the passed week, but I will definitely be more conscious of how much gluten I take in from now on (I’m following my New Year’s to do list)!

Also, I didn’t really see any results concerning my body weight from the lack of gluten I ate, but I wouldn’t expect to because of how short of a time frame I tried it and how little gluten was taken out of my diet.

Did you take this challenge with me? Did you get any results? Let me know in the comments!
